Wait… do people fail to forget how Iron Man’s own father Howard Stark is the one who basically created Captain America? At least in the movies, I don’t know much about the comics. Howard is one of the chief scientists in the Super Soldier Project, basically playing a key role in turning Steve Rogers into Captain America. They remain allies throughout the war, and Stark even builds the trademark shield and uniform.
That’s why in The Avengers at the part where Steve and Tony are all angsty and dissing each other, when Tony says, “Everything that makes you a hero comes from a bottle”, Steve should have said, “Yeah, one that your own father helped create.”
